Smells Like Teen Spirit (chords)
Song by Nirvana
Tabbed by Bridge Hanson (Bridge.Hanson@gmail.com)
So I was a little sad to see that there was only one version of Smells Like Teen Spirit
here for chords, and it is very brief and doesn't sound right. So I thought I'd try my
at it.
This may be a little off, but it's what I have so far. Tuning is standard, and *CAPO THE
FRET*
(Strum pattern: listen to the original song, and try to strum how Cobain does for the
and chorus for the... well, intro and chorus.
It goes somewhat like; strum, strumstrum, mutemutemutemute strum strum strum, if that
sense. Otherwise just go with what you think fits best)
(Chords are placed over the word you start the chord on, but approximate. It's hard to
exactly when to shift, but if you know the song/tune, you'll know when to go)
Intro:
E, A, G, C (x4)
Verse Intro:
E, A, G, C (x2)
Verse:
E A G
Load up on guns
C E
Bring your friends
A G
It's fun to lose
C E
And to pretend
A G
She's overboard
C E
Myself assured
A G C E
I know I know a dirty word
E A G C
Hello, hello, hello, how low (x4)
Chorus:
E
With the lights out
A G
It's less dangerous
C E
Here we are now
A G
Entertain us
C E
I feel stupid
A G
And contagious
C E
Here we are now
A G
Entertain us
C E
A milato
A G
An albino
C E
A misquito
A G
My libido
C
Yeah
Post-Chorus (this is where I get a little off, and may need work)
e -----------------------------------------|
B -----------------------2-2-0-0-----------|
G --1-1-1-2-2--2^--1-1-1-2-2-0-0-1---------|
D --2-2-2-3-3------2-2-2-2-2-0-0-2---------|
A --2-2-2-3-3------2-2-2---------2---------|
E -----------------------------------------| (x2)
Hey!
And that's it. Use the same chords and strumming for each chorus and verse, and as for
solo.... well, you can either play the solo like normal(I'll put the tab for the solo
or you can skip it. I find if you're playing alone, the chorus sounds awkward like
because it goes from loud chorus to a somewhat empty/quiet solo feeling, so personally I
it. However, if you have a band or something, it may sound better with the solo.
Also, for the part at the end where he goes "a denial" over and over, just do the chorus.
Solo: (tabbed as if you still have the capo on)
e -------------------------------------|
B -------------------------------------|
G ---7-9---7-9-7-5-4-5-4---------------|
D -9-----5---------------7-5-7-9-7-5-4-|
A -------------------------------------|

D -5-4--5-4--5-4--5-4---|
A --------------------7-|
E ----------------------| (x4)
It sounds pretty good when played on an acoustic guitar, and it sounds pretty accurate
me (not 100% on the post-chorus though). If you think there are any mistakes, feel free
email me about any changes you feel I should make. Enjoy!
