the quarry turns and starts to run
the hunter is patient he is having fun
he follows his prey with an easy gait the kill will be his; he has not long to wait!
over marshy ground  through tangling vines
with cold fear dripping down his spine
the hunted runs; fleeing from the knife away from the hunter who would take his life!
The sun has fallen and the sky is black
a serpent coils preparing to attack
the hunted pauses to regain his breath; then resumes his retreat from the hunter and death!
a short distance away behind a rock
observing movement watching like a hawk
the quarry is tired; it is almost done upon termination the hunter will have won!

a sharp report echoes through the night a streaking bullet  slows the victim's flight
a trail of blood  leads the hunter on as his rifle is shouldered  and his knife is drawn
flesh wound burning he falls to the ground searches for cover nothing to be found
with failing vision and a final breath he turns to face  his impending death
a fatal blow comes crashing down with a flash of steel hunter cuts him down
the body crumples falling at his feet the life has been taken his task is complete.
in the predawn hour on the homebound trail he relives the hunt in every dark detail
he returns to camp and prepares to rest with the oncoming night starts a new conquest!
