Rotten Town
Prepare the Preparations
Am Dm
'Twas quite the inky black night
C E7 Am
All the weather vanes were turning and the constable was burning out his light
Am Dm
When lo our anchors went down, barnacle bound
C E7 Am
The men were up and churning yes, and soon the square was burning to the ground
Dm E/E7
And oh, the flames were as gold
Am Dm C E7
I scowl at the angry moon, I am sick on myself, I'm a bum
Am Dm C E7 Am
What have I become? A drunken maroon run aground in this rotten town
Am Dm
It's been a fortnight or two
C E7 Am
The mutineers are plotting 'gainst the captain as I'm rotting in the goo
Am
The constable was set to drown while the shabby scabs that went to town
Dm
Were reconnoitering with blades and guns
C E7 Am
The ale had started spilling yes, and soon the crew was killing everyone
Dm E/E7
And oh, the streets burned with gold
Dm E/E7
But oh, my bones were so cold
Am Dm C E7
I scowl at the angry moon, I am sick on myself, I'm a bum
Am Dm C E7
What have I become? A drunken maroon run aground in this rotten town
Am
I stumbled down the harbor to the tavern on the square
Dm
And heard a raucous ruckus as it rang
C Dm
From some foul inebriates, some men I used to call my mates
E7 Am
Who were lost in song and this is what they sang
Am C E7
They sang, "Hey, heigh, yo, ho! O'er the Atlantic we go!
Am Dm
Drinking till we all get sick and coming up with limericks
E7 Am
But we never quite remember how they end
Am Dm C E7
I can see my childhood home, I think of my dear old mum
Am
What have I become?
Repeat the chorus and that's it!
