"Cherish"
(Terry Kirkman)
Jim Yester, in the liner notes to the Japanese _From The Original Master
Tapes_ CD (Warner/Pioneer WPCP-3536):
One of the main signature pieces for the group, this follow-up release
to "Along Comes Mary" rose to #1 nationally, and remained there for over
three months. [Maybe in Japan; in the US, it was #1 for three weeks.]
This song was a result of Terry Kirkman's fascination with the word
"Cherish". The group's music publisher fought the title, believing it
was too archaic. Arranged by the group, this song went through three
completely different productions before being recorded. At the time, it
was not considered for release as a single record. Fortunately, a disc
jockey in Ohio took it upon himself to cause a regional breakout.
