Blood Runs Cold by Def Leppard Hello again. This time around, I'm transcribing Blood Runs Cold by Def Leppard, which is from their 1996 album "Slang". This is probably the best song off that (criminally underrated) album, and was inspired by the life and death of Def Leppard's original guitarist, Steve Clark. ("White Lightning" is another song on the same theme, though the focus there is on drug and alcohol abuse, whereas here it's a plea to a friend with a self-destructive lifestyle.) Key E (Def Leppard are extremely fond of this key!) Intro (keyboard arranged for guitar!) Figure 1 (play twice): e|----4-4-2-2-0-0-----| B|---------------4-0--| G|--------------------| D|--------------------| A|--------------------| E|--------------------| Figure 2 (this is played about 8 times, with a bass riff in the background): e|--------------------| B|-5-5-4-4-2-2-0-0----| G|--------------------| D|--------------------| A|--------------------| E|--------------------| Strum an open E chord leading out of this and into the first verse... Verse: E B Heard this line one time about trying to save the world, A E But do you ever try to save yourself? E B A wild-eyed suicide drive, remains a fake C#m G#m As if you're never, never gonna make that same mistake. . . Pre-chorus: (use some distortion here and let the chords ring) Asus2 (=A5) Strung out as the night comes crawling, B5 A halo of thorns is falling. . . Chorus (you can use clean chords or power chords here): E B Blood runs cold. . . C#m I feel it in my bones A B But you don't know - your time is up - E And blood runs cold Play intro figure 2 leading into the next verse. Middle eight: (key change here!) C From you, love was kind Gm Resolved, left starved and blind, Bb C Wasted and naked in the rain - C Denying twist of fate Gm Demanding Heaven's gate Bb C D and slide to E. . . Lying in wait above the wind Solo chords: E / C#m / A / E Then end with one more pre-chorus and chorus. End on E -> intro figure 2 -> E. Happy listening, and remember: living is the best revenge.
