Boyz In The Hood by Dynamite Hack Boys in the ?Hood - Dynamite Hack cover of NWA (ice cube/easy-e/Dr. Dre) NOTE: The Dynamite Hack version is finger-picked, and well, they also have 2 guitar players. So, this is a version arranged for one guitar player to sing and play. Also, this arrangement is made for "humans." In other words, the walking base line is preserved with a flat-picking style. The lyrics are taken from the Dynamite Hack website. Further, I have added some 7ths in here to spice things up for one guitar player. The suggested rhythm and chord charts are listed below. Don't be scared of the "weird" chord names. I have written it this way to emphasize the walking base line. I hope this version helps some people to play it live. --kidguitar INTRO RIFF VERSE 1 A F#m7/C# Woke up quick, at about noon Bm7/D E7/B Just thought that I had to be in Compton soon A A6/F I gotta get drunk, ?fore the day begins A6/F# A6/e D2 Before my mother starts bitchin' about my friends VERSE 2 About to go and damn near went blind, Young niggas on the path throwin' up gang sings I went in the house to get the clip With my mack 10, on the side of my hip VERSE 3 I bailed outside and I pointed my weapon And just as I thought, the fools kept steppin' I jumped in the fro', hit the juice on my ride I got front and back. side to side VERSE 4 Then I let the Alpine play I was pumpin' new shit by NWA It was gangsta gangsta at the top of the list Then I played my own shit it went somethin' like this VERSE 5 (use chorus chords for this verse only) Crusin' down the street in my six fo' Jockin' the bitches, slappin' the ho's I went to the park to get the scoop Knuckleheads out there, cold shootin' some hoop VERSE 6 a car pulls up, who can it be It's a fresh elcamino, rollin' kilo-G He rolls down the window and starts to say It's all about makin' that G T A CHORUS A F#m7/C# Bm7/D Cuz' the boyz in the ?hood are always hard E7/B A Come talkin' that trash, and we'll pull your card F#m7/C# Bm7/D Knowin' nothin' in life, but to be legit E7/B A (D/F#, A, E7) Don't quote me boy I ain't said shit VERSE 7 Bored as hell, and I wanna' to get ill So I go to a place where my home boys chill Fellas out there tryin' to make that dolla' I pulled up in the six four impalla VERSE 8 I'm greeted with a forty and I start drinkin' And from the eight ball my breath starts stinkin' I gotta get my girl to rock that body before I left, I hit the Bacardi VERSE 9 Pull to the house, get her outta the pad And the bitch said somethin' to make mad, She said somethin' that, I couldn't believe So I grabbed the stuiped bitch by her nappy ass weave VERSE 10 Started talkin' shit, wouldn't you know I reached back like a pimp and I slapped the ho' and her father stood up, and started to shout So I threw a right cross and knocked his ole' ass out CHORUS ?Cuz the boys in the hood are always hard Come talkin' that trash and we'll pull your card Knowin' nothin' in life, but to be legit Don't quote me boy I ain't said shit INSTRUMENTAL Punk ass trippin' in the dead of night... Homey scored a ki, he's gonna fly, punk ass fly -------------------------------------------- CHORDS FOR RHYTHM SECTION (not the "intro riff") A F#m7/C# Bm7/D E7/B A6/F A6/F# A6/e D2 E7 e|--x--2--------2------0-----2-----2------2-----0---0--| B|--2--2--------3------3-----2-----2------2-----3---0--| G|--2--2--------2------1-----2-----2------2-----2---1--| D|--2--2--------4------0-----3-----4------2-----0---0--| A|--0--4--------5------2-----x-----x------x-----x---2--| E|--x--x--------x------x-----x-----x------x-----x---0--| CHORD PLAYING TIPS: When transitioning from the A to the F#m7/C#, don't just add your ring finger onto the A, instead, bar all the strings. Then when you have to play the Bm7/D, your first finger is already barred and does not have to move. When you play the Bm7/D, if the "G" string is a bit muted, that's o.k., the other notes do the work of the chord. RHYTHM: The chords are played softly and can be slopped together for effect. For the verse chords, hit the lowest note twice then hit the chord once (all down strokes), with a "shuffle" feel. The exception is these two chords (A6/F# -- A6/e); for these chords, hit the lowest note once and strum the chord once. Thus, this rhythm is similar to the Incubus "Drive" song, where you can hit the base notes while your fingers take some time to get into position on the chords. Note: Dynamite Hack does some more intricate work on verse 5. However, if you use the chorus chords it sounds fine. Note: The chorus chord progression is just the first 4 chords of the verse repeated twice. www.TAB6.com
